Child Soldiers in UgandaHow would you feel if you or your child were kidnapped or forcibly abducted by the ferocious Lord's Resistance Army in northern Uganda? Where the only option you're given is to kill or be killed and the only thing you get in return for risking your life is five dollars and maybe another week to live well, that's a sad, but true reality for most Ugandan children. In the last two years, almost 300,000 child soldiers have been recruited, in addition to being forced to fight; children are often used as spies, couriers, cooks and cleaners. Girls are often forced into sexual slavery or taken as wives for male fighters. To date 45% of Ugandan child soldiers are mainly made up of girls, another reason why Ugandan warlords use child soldiers for their armed groups is because they are a renewable resource of war and because children are much easier to be manipulated and trained than men. They don't need as much food and they don't need to be paid as much since they can always fine a new child to replace another, they also say since they don't have a very developed sense of danger yet, it's all too easy to send them to the line of fire. Which in my opinion is stupid because not only did they kidnap these kids at a very young age, but they are also paid crap to risk their lives for that pathetic war, these warlords don't even see these kids as living, breathing people, they look like them as a replenishable resource that they can get more of if they run out or if they get sick or injured. Most people only know Joseph Kony for his kidnapping and turning ordinary Ugandan children into child soldiers, but most... middle of paper ......to let him know who has bad intentions in against him and that the spirits of those the fighters killed will return to kill their perpetrators if the fighters attempt to escape. These lies and spiritual superstitions create deep-rooted fear in soldiers that drives their cooperation. Ultimately, the way Kony keeps his soldiers in line is the promise of power and wealth. Once the LRA succeeds in overthrowing Museveni's government, LRA fighters will be rewarded with government positions and wealth. Even some long-time former abductees recall that: “They told us that if we fight and overthrow the government then we will get wealth and even the young soldiers will get high ranks in the army.” The promise of future prosperity and the perceived importance of toppling Museveni's government appear to keep them motivated to continue fighting for Kony's cause
