What is meant by stewardship is that the institutional repository assumes responsibility for preserving and sharing the digital document from the owner when the responsibility for the care and preservation of a digital document falls on the author of the document. The author may store the conference document, for example, on a computer's hard drive where it tends to become corrupted or attacked by a virus.
