There are many people on this earth who are self-centered. They feel that every decision they make is important and they feel more important than anyone else. Flannery O'Connor explores this type of mentality in her short story A Good Man is Hard to Find. The story focuses on a family of six who are setting off on a road trip from Georgia to Tennessee after their grandmother reads an article about a serial killer headed to Florida. After stopping to eat, Grandma convinces her son Bailey to take a detour; the car subsequently crashes; they encounter the serial killer and then he kills the entire family. Throughout the story, the grandmother exemplifies that she might be self-centered, so O'Connor's grandmother character feels that when she sees the little black boy who wasn't wearing any pants, she proceeds to call him "pickaninny" and "a nigger." ". Then he puts himself in a higher position, claiming that he has no pants because he felt that blacks don't have things like in the country. The 1950s were a time of discrimination against blacks because they could not receive well-paying jobs , an education and a vote. He does not believe in the change that is shown in conversations with children and with Red Sammy, he constantly uses phrases like "in my time", "in my time". of knowledge and technology, everything is not expected to remain the same. During the conversation with Red Sammy, he then blames America's problems on Europe. He said that European countries depended on American support of communism during the cold. While planning the trip, she uses many excuses to go to Tennessee to visit her friends. She complains that the children have already been to Florida and they need to "be broad". he leaves to go on a trip, he secretly brings his cat Pitty Sing, fearing that he "might miss him too much". someone. After the Misfit begins killing the family, she proceeds to beg him to spare her life. This shows that she is willing to live alone as long as she is spared. All her pleas proved futile when she was shot. For me, his final point was when he said he would have Mr. Teagarden. Mr. Teagarden died rich after buying Coca-Cola stock when the business started. The way she said it sounds like she wanted to marry him because he had money rather than loving him because he is a gentleman. Despite O'Connor's use of characterization, she managed to explore the grandmother's self-centered mind. He always wanted to be the center of attention, he was prejudiced and believed that things should stay the same, and he was very selfish. Even though he thinks he is above everyone else, he feels like the world is spinning around
