The Scientific Revolution consisted of a period of time during which revolutionary ideas radically altered people's thinking. It helped spark the Enlightenment in which rulers acted on the advice of philosophers who believed everything should be thought of in a rational way based on reason, not faith. Frederick the Great of Prussia and Joseph II of Austria were considered enlightened rulers. By implementing modern changes that supported knowledge, education, and the arts for the betterment of the country and its society, Frederick the Great and Joseph II fostered the development of Enlightenment principles in contrast to the previously applied system. However, they also created an obstacle due to the introduction of reforms that did not adhere to the morals of the Enlightenment, such as the belief that change came from the highest strata of a social structure.
