All parents want their children to receive the best education possible. Indeed, school should be an enriching experience for all ages and students should be provided with the tools and environment to achieve to the best of their abilities. The best way to achieve this is to introduce a uniform policy in public schools. In 1994, the first uniforms were required in schools in Long Beach, California; since then, other public schools have followed their lead, also adopting uniform policies (Chen). The president of the Long Beach School District commented on the effectiveness of the uniforms, stating, “These schools are becoming educational workplaces. Students arrive dressed for success, ready to learn. They do better with each other and experience significant improvements” (Brunsma and Rockquemore 54). It can be argued that public schools that implement a uniform policy bring economic, social and educational benefits, as well as making the school campus safer. During today's tough economic times, most people are eager for opportunities to save time and money. Some may be surprised to find that uniforms can actually do both for most families. Since students have to wear the same basic clothing to school every day, parents and children don't have to waste time choosing clothes in the morning (“Pros and Cons of School Uniforms”). Additionally, children may be able to sleep more. School uniforms can make mornings much less stressful, especially for working parents. Not only do uniforms allow more time before school, they also allow parents to spend less money on their children's wardrobe.
