TS Eliot, a man known for his dedication to literature, was a determined poet willing to overcome any obstacle to reach a higher place in the literary world. Eliot's poems, not for the faint of heart, dealt with his most disturbing life experiences, such as depression, illness, and the complex society of the First World War. These trials and tribulations brought Eliot into a state of collapse, fueled by his wife Vivien's illness, and he began publishing at night. Eliot was known for leaving his readers right at “the door of enlightenment,” as Aiken (“TS Eliot”) put it. Eliot would address the question in great detail, but then not answer the question and leave it up to the reader to discover. TS Eliot is one of the most brilliant poets of the First World War and pre-war era, remembered for his greatest devotion and impact in the early modernist movement. On September 26, 1888, in Saint Louis, Missouri, Thomas Sterns Eliot was delivered to Henry Ware The Arms of Eliot (Bush). Eliot's father Henry, president of the Hydraulic Press Brick Company, had always had a taste for poetry, as an amateur poet with a thirst for Emerson (Bush). His mother was a school teacher, who would later become involved in social issues, once Eliot got older (Pope). The youngest of eleven, Eliot was surrounded by family throughout his childhood. His grandfather, William Greenleaf Eliot, influenced him, despite having died on January 23, 1887, through his achievements and creations ("Washington"). A branch of Washington University, Smith Academy in Saint Louis, is where Eliot attended school for his early life and later attended Milton Academy in Massachusetts (“TS Eliot Biography”).
