The battle that sent Robert into utter madness was a death knell for the Allies. Robert was in charge of delivering convoys to the front lines when they were ambushed by air strikes. Robert had recently been deployed with a new supply of horses and mules, which were becoming bomb fodder. Robert decided that the crucial objective would be to save the horses; especially since they would need it half an hour later, once the shelling had calmed down. Robert's superior rank, Captain Leather, forbids him from fleeing with his horses to safety because he seems like a coward in battle. Robert argued with his Captain and ultimately chose to go against his words to save the horses. In the end it didn't work as planned because in the split second after freeing the horses, a bomb exploded at the right time as the horses ran for safety, killing or wounding the animals deployed in the next step. Robert expressed his true madness through his actions
