Theodore Dalrymple is an English writer, prison doctor and retired psychiatrist. Daniel in his writings has often argued that the liberal and progressive views prevalent in Western intellectual circles minimize the responsibility of individuals for their own actions and undermine traditional customs, contributing to the formation in rich countries of an underclass plagued by violence, sexually transmitted diseases, crime, welfare dependency and drug abuse. His writings are generally based on his experience working with criminals and the mentally ill. Dalrymple has at various times been accused of being a pessimist and a misanthrope, but his persistent conservative philosophy, described as anti-ideological, skeptical, rational and empiricist, has been worthy of praise. In 2011, Dalrymple received the 2011 Freedom Prize from the Flemish think tank Liberia for his work. Theodore Dalrymple's “What We Must Lose” is the vigorous defense of civilization from barbarism. His main argument, which he presents with detailed examples and evidence, much of which comes from his own experiences, recognizes that often the greatest threats to this fragile human achievement come from within. In his essay he provides a chilling look at the problem we face in the West. It recognizes the fact that we have become so accustomed to civilization that it is almost impossible to believe that it is a fragile thing and can disappear. It gives us an important lesson: civilization, despite its greatness and its seemingly infinite resources, is not invincible and can disappear. I would say we are seeing an accelerated decline. The situation in the West is reaching the point where... middle of paper... and against tradition it will be the end of wisdom and virtue. They may not be aware of how much they stand to lose. He understands, based on his various experiences traveling around the world or as a prison doctor, and his profound knowledge of the now denigrated cultural and scientific heritage of the West, that an important aspect of Western culture would be lost. forever. His writings are a warning to us. With current society abandoned to an endless regime of sex, drugs, rock and roll etc. Much can happen if the social mores of millennia are abandoned, but it is not too late to see the future and avoid it.
