A dream is the experience of having images, sounds, or other sensations during sleep. Many dreams come from various activities throughout the day, but some offer symbolic expressions. There is a connection between the conscious and the unconscious that can fill the gaps in self-knowledge and provide necessary information. Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung have two theories about dreams. Sigmund Freud's theory was that dreams are the expression of what is repressed during the waking period. Carl Jung believed that dreams provide messages about “lost” or “neglected” parts of ourselves that need to be replenished. Why do we dream? Dreams are the fulfillment of desires. They reveal desires or emotions that you didn't realize you had. Dreams help solve problems because the dreaming mind makes connections more quickly than the waking mind does. It also helps in processing painful emotions with symbolic associations. The brain often associates the emotion with a symbol. The dream model is a process more similar to therapy. People go through ideas and emotions and place them in a broader psychological context. Dreams can have a very big impact on people's lives. When you dream there are two options. The dream can be had in black and white or in color. Only a small percentage of people dream in black and white. There is a very low range of causes for black and white dreaming, and depression plays a role in this. A black and white dream reflects depressed feelings in an inner world. These black and white colors express their current emotional state. Among the elderly, media is the main reason for dreaming in black and white. Many years ago people had the option of black and white television. Older movies are memories...center of the card...can affect the mood of a person's day based on the type of dream that occurred. If the dream was happy, the person will remain glowing all day, but if the dream is angry or sad, the mood will reflect the dream. It may take hours, depending on the person, to shake off the negative effects of a dream. Dreams can also affect the quality of your sleep. If the dream is pleasant, sleep will seem too fast, but you will wake up rested. If the dream was a nightmare, the dreamer's sleep will be awakened several times due to fear. The only way to have the ability to remember dreams and enter REM sleep is to get enough sleep, get curious, and keep a dream diary to retrieve key ideas later. Dreaming can also help in learning processes. When the brain dreams it helps to solve problems. Dreams are known to process, integrate, and understand new information.
