GH POSITION PAPERQuestion: Between the mixed economy and communism, which economic system is better? Why? The purpose of writing this article is to gain knowledge and better understanding of different types of economic systems. It is important to explore this question because to improve we must study the results of each economic system in the past and improve each technique used in the system. This question and this article focus on two types of economic systems, the mixed economy and communism. The mixed economy, that of Canada, is a means of production controlled by the government and partly also by private individuals who own and invest in companies and businesses. In the mixed economy, citizens receive general welfare from the government; such as a pension for people over 65 or a family allowance in recognition of past service. In this economic system, people are paid based on the contribution they make to the system based on work or resources. Communism, what China and Russia have, is where the government controls all of the country's resources and production equipment. In the second half of the 19th century, Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels founded the philosophy of communism. They wrote the book entitled “The Communist Manifesto”. This philosophy ended capitalism by allowing private property to belong to the community. The slogan of communism was: “Everyone gives according to their ability and receives according to their needs, therefore the needs of a society would be placed above and beyond the specific needs of an individual.” This concept was incredible, but implementing it into a system was and still is challenging.
