Contract Document for Changing Behavior When the class was first told about the contract, I thought to myself that this can really help me quit smoking if I stick to it. I smoke about a pack a day, which is 20 cigarettes. I wanted to gradually decrease the amount of cigarettes I smoke each week for 7 weeks until I stopped smoking. Unfortunately this didn't work and I was smoking the same amount I started with after the first week on the contract. There were three groups of factors that really influenced me to continue smoking. The first factor is the reinforcing factor, smoking is a very social activity and there are so many people doing it. There are always groups of people smoking anywhere at any time. School is where I smoke the most cigarettes because I know a lot of people who smoke and whenever I see someone I know smoking I join them and smoke a cigarette. Then there is the predisposing factor, this includes everything that is already in my head. An example of this would be how I am mentally addicted to cigarettes and can never seem to stop. This factor in my opinion has the greatest influence on whether I smoke. The last factor is the enabler; Today cigarettes are very easy to obtain, even for minors. Many stores don't even check IDs; they sell them to anyone. Another enabling factor is that I earn money and can afford to buy cigarettes at any price. As you can see, these three factors have a lot to do with why I couldn't stop smoking cigarettes. I also think another reason I couldn't stop was the whole reward system.
