Coaching psychology is a new subdiscipline within the field of psychology that draws on psychological approaches and was initially established as a profession in the United Kingdom and Australia (Palmer and Whybrow, 2008). Furthermore, life coaching and executive coaching emerged in the 1990s and are currently applied in personal and work contexts, and also in educational contexts (Coaching Psychologist, 2005). The main goal of a coaching session is to help the client achieve their desired goals (Grant, 2008). For the session to be successful, the coach should adapt some skills such as listening, paraphrasing, asking questions and giving and receiving feedback (Van Nieuwerburgh, 2014). Coaching is also adapted in schools that provide support to students, teachers and leaders. Therefore, coaching can improve exam results, teaching skills and transition to new roles (Van Nieuwerburgh, 2014). This essay will critically examine the appreciative inquiry (IA) approach, how it can be applied in an educational context, and the benefits of coaching on the student learning experience. Description of Interventions Appreciative inquiry can best be described as a new method in addressing problems. Artificial intelligence is based on the assumption that one should look for what currently works for him that will lead to positive change or transformation in an organization (Fry, 2003). Furthermore, AI does not focus on what is wrong or the problem itself in the customer's life; on the contrary, it encourages him to discover his own resources and capabilities to support positive change (Hammond, 2006). Furthermore, in a coaching session 4 phases are discussed which are; Discovery (exploring one's strengths and abilities), Dre...... middle of paper...... influences a coaching outcome, so coaching will be considered part of a post-graduation curriculum. Participants took part in classes that included workshops, group discussions and cognitive coaching. Students completed a social and emotional questionnaire before and after the end of the program, as well as self-assessment of coaching skills. The results showed that students' emotional and social intelligence increased significantly as well as an improvement in their cognitive abilities (Spaten & Hansen, 2009). However, educational coaching may have some disadvantages in educational organizations. One disadvantage is the fact that coaching programs can be expensive and some schools may not afford these types of programs. Another disadvantage is that coaching may take time to be effective, so results will not be seen directly (Marian, 2010).
