Many wars have been fought in our society. But from these wars, countries usually learn from their mistakes, which makes the world better for society. However, in many cases countries have not learned from these mistakes, which can lead to conflicts. In the late 1800s the English began to explore Africa and Asia. In doing so, they colonized many nations. However, many people living in these colonies disagreed with the English and rebelled. This led to the British granting independence to these countries. However, in many cases the British government did not help these countries become independent. This caused many countries to fail, because they were not ready to face the challenges of independence. One country that became independent from the British was Burma. However, since gaining independence, they have fought one of the longest civil wars in the history of the world. In this article, I will investigate whether the reason the conflict in Burma is still ongoing is because the British allowed them to become independent prematurely, and the British did not help Burma overcome the challenges of becoming a nation. As complicated as the ethnic conflict is in Burma, it is important to take a look at the background of this conflict. Burma is located in Southeast Asia. It borders Bangladesh, India, China, Laos and Thailand. It populates sixty million people and has one of the largest populations in a country. Because there are so many people, there are also many religions. The country is made up of Buddhists, Muslims and Shiites. However, the problem is that each religion lives in a certain area and these areas do not get along with each other. This f... middle of paper... would become independent, they would be loyal to them. However, most people in Burma did not want to become Christin. However, many people in the Kran nation accepted the faith and converted to Christianity. Furthermore, there were many Christian Karens who changed their identities and thought they were different from other Burmese. For this reason they created the Karen National Union group. Since the Karen people were the only group in Burma to convert to Christianity, they were favored by the British. The Karen people were offered opportunities not available to the ethnic Burmese majority. Special treatment included military recruitment and seats in the new legislature. As the Burmese people were divided over who would convert, this also caused increased tension between all ethnic groups. (add more negative things about the English here)
