Topic > Campus Violence: Problem and Solution - 980

Campus violence increasingly manifests itself in more random assaults, gang fights, mass shootings, flash-mob crimes, and vicious one-on-one attacks. Since March, about four women have been charged with the murder of other female students. Crime gradually characterizes the modern university experience. Despite guaranteed safety, crime and violence rates have increased on school campuses. The number of cases has increased from 40 in the 1980s to 79 in the 1990s and 83 since 2000. The reason for the increase remains unknown. However, the increase in crime rates occurred among college student enrollments over the previous 20 years. Arrests of women increased more than arrests of men in most crime categories between 1991 and 2000. In 2005, there were 2.1 million women out of 14 million total juvenile arrests. Girls made up a third of juvenile arrests and 18 percent of violent crimes. Arrests for simple assaults among girls increased 24 percent between 1996 and 2005, while arrests of boys for similar crimes decreased. According to experts, state university campuses can easily become fertile ground for clashes. Attackers choose a victim in advance or choose victims aimlessly because they fit a certain profile. Violence can also erupt unexpectedly, for example during an argument. Close relationships were an inspiring factor in a third of attacks. The educational pressure factor has been linked to one in ten attacks. Violence on campus can destroy the school environment. The tension that the violence creates is enough to distract students from doing their homework. By distracting others from class work, they have a huge impact on the career they desire. The violence can reach a point where the offender brings in a traitor... middle of paper... to make the school a safe learning environment by banning weapons and drugs. Today's zero-tolerance policy encompasses much more than guns. They can also lead to suspension or expulsion for several reasons. For example, bring other over-the-counter medications with you. Now, many, if not most, campuses provide 24-hour security, a wonderful solution to help prevent a growing crime rate in the area. When people don't feel terror or exasperation, they become better spectators and students. Students become able to focus on schoolwork and perhaps even gain interest in attending class more often. They become able to pursue their education easily without worries. Furthermore, parents feel better when they know that their children are studying in a safe university environment. The only way to avoid hostility is to stop the conflict before it turns into a serious situation.
