Shakespeare's works have many messages. They all have similarities. One is the theme of love. Shakespeare talks about young couples falling in love in many of his plays. Love is described as an amazing thing. Everyone wants to fall in love. It is meant to be truly gorgeous and flawless. Many think that this certain connection between two people is perfect. True love is what children hear about throughout their lives. Many films watched by children show this. Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty and even The Little Mermaid are about true love. The films are based on these princesses who find their prince charming and fall in love to live happily ever after despite the obstacles they may face along the way. However in A Midsummer Night's Dream, Shakespeare demonstrates that "the course of true love never ran smooth" through the lovers becoming confused by the juice of Cupid's flower, Oberon and Titania fighting over the shape-shifting boy and the performance of Pyramus and Thisbe. In A Midsummer Night's Dream, the quote "the course of true love never ran smooth", is first demonstrated by the lovers getting confused due to the cupid juice of the flower. When Oberon tells Puck to put juice in the eyes of a young Athenian boy who rejects the love of a sweet Athenian lady, Puck sees Lysander and assumes that Oberon was talking about him. Demetrius was obviously the one Oberon was talking about, but Puck sees Lysander first. Lysander slept next to Hermia, his true love. He wakes up and sees Helena, who had been abandoned by Demetrius. Lysander, under the spell of Cupid's juice from the flower, is now in love with Helen. When Demetrius lies down for a nap, Puck puts juice in his eyes too. Helena is the first one he sees... middle of paper... not because of the feud between their families or the monstrous lioness, these lovers could have been together and lived happily ever after. The lovers mingling over Cupid's juice from the flower, Oberon and Titania fighting over the shape-shifting boy, and the performance of Pyramus and Thisbe are all ways Shakespeare demonstrates the quote, "the course of true love never ran smooth " throughout his work. A Midsummer Night's Dream. It shows the constant problem of others getting in the way of true love. It becomes an obstacle that these true lovers must overcome. In reality, true love is what it appears to be. People who have not experienced true love don't understand that there is more to it than just bliss. When two people are in love, there will be situations that the couple will have to face together. It's part of the whole experience.
