The National Academy of Sciences (NAS) is a prestigious non-profit organization that prides itself on excellence in the fields of science, engineering, and medicine and is composed by many distinguished and well-renowned scientists.1The organization is responsible for providing high-quality objective information in these fields, therefore it is a prestigious organization where only the most outstanding academicians are elected based on their contribution to the expansion of scientific research .2 The NAS is responsible for providing independent and objective advice to the nation on related matters.2 Based on this model, a South African organization would like to be formed. I would like to elect Dr. David Nalin as an extraordinary physician and physiologist. David Robert Nalin is an American physiologist who has published over 120 articles in various journals, with most of his research published in renowned journals such as The Lancet and New England Journal of Medicine. Dr. Nalin's research began at the age of 26, while he was doing his residency in Bangladesh at the Pakistan Sato Research Lab during the time of a cholera epidemic in the region.3 He had noticed that many cholera patients were dying, Due to insufficient staffing, the only treatment for cholera at the time was fluid replacement therapy via intravenous therapy.3 However, due to a shortage of doctors, it became increasingly difficult to manage such a large number of patients . This led Dr. Nalin and his colleagues to look for possible alternative treatment mechanisms to ensure that all cholera patients could be effectively rehydrated. He also aimed to find an appropriate treatment that would reduce…half the paper…at college, Albany Medical College, where he studied for his medical degree by closing their international research program.31 the income created by his fund is used annually to support international research by medical students.31 Nalin has had a long career as a researcher, with over 40 years of experience working in medical research. His research has been conducted in a wide range of fields: vaccinia, malaria, infectious and waterborne diseases, and has had over 120 articles published in journals considered prestigious by many in the scientific community. This, coupled with his many public health efforts and humanitarian achievements, as well as his legacy of ensuring other students have the opportunity to conduct research abroad, make Dr. Nalin a truly extraordinary physiologist and an excellent candidate for the Academy..
