Today, Americans who fear scenarios such as economic collapse, nuclear war, an EMP, or natural disaster continue to prepare for “the end.” There are people who believe that “The Prepping Movement” is a new trend. If we look back to October 29, 1929, what is now considered “Black Tuesday,” when the stock market crashed and caused the Great Depression. Americans reacted in panic, running to banks that were still open for fear of losing their life savings. The effect of this economic collapse was detrimental to America. Today the people of the United States have become more dependent on technology than the people of 1929. How would the people of this country react if the lights went out tomorrow? Would you be prepared? It would certainly cause more hardship in the event of a disaster, because today life is simply within reach. While this is not the first time America has prepared for a disaster, current trends show that it is very clear that people continue to prepare. Fearful of the economy collapsing once again, Americans who believe in preparedness, believe they must work to provide information to others to help them prepare. Anyone who watches cable television has seen or heard of the popular TV show Doomsday Preppers. This show selects a variety of preppers to share their story, what they're preparing for, and how they're preparing. Although others believe that people who prepare are crazy, they continue to move forward and prepare for disaster. Furthermore, they are not just preparing for themselves, but are sharing information to help others prepare (Starr).
