That leader made most decisions himself, despite the fact that he sometimes pretended to ask others for feedback. All team members knew that regardless of their contributions, the leader would ultimately do whatever he or she set out to do, often without regard to the immediate needs of the team. Needless to say, this didn't make people happy, because they didn't feel empowered to offer ideas and make a good difference in the workplace. At the same time, depending on the situation, the leader sometimes chooses not to get involved in situations that clearly require immediate guidance to fix things and enforce policies. The result of these “mixed signals” and inconsistent leadership was that many people began to leave the organization and services were not provided to standards of good care.
