I understand that Taesik went from this kind of mysterious, cold, detached man to this character who became the emotionally attached father figure for Somi. However, because of this progression, I believe this is why some viewers empathize with him more. This puts Somi out of focus in the film. On the tvtropes website, their “Character Focus” article states: “Be careful, though. While fans of a particular character may appreciate a story focused solely on that character, when the camera zooms in on one person, everyone else is out of focus..." A quote that plays into the fact that it might seem like a good idea to give this character all this "attention", however, could distract the audience from enjoying the rest of the film because the other characters are not involved enough. That's why I think director Jeong Beom should have taken this into account. Or maybe he could have just focused on this “girl”. with difficult living conditions” when he was interviewed about the news article that inspired him
