The topic I have chosen for my speech is the Mayan Calendar and Prophecies, and its relationship with December 21, 2012. For several years now the Mayan Calendar, which shows the December 21, 2012 as its last recorded day, sparked different reactions among the people. Some have reacted with panic, predicting a catastrophic end for our planet; others began to be virtuous people, fearful of the punishment of the Final Judgment. Some have dedicated themselves to exploring it with morbid curiosity, speculating about when and how the end will begin, although there are others for whom the search for truth is a necessity. And of course there are also the unbelievers, those who don't believe a word about this topic. I am part of the group of those who want to get to the bottom of this whole thing, I don't want to give the impression of being a believer or completely skeptical. Therefore, it is important for me to understand why different ancient cultures, separated by thousands and thousands of kilometers, came to the same conclusion about an event that will happen at some distant future date. This is a fact, and in fact it was the first thing that caught my attention, the Mayans were not the only ones, other ancient civilizations and individuals also indicated December 21, 2012 as an important day in the history of humanity, predicting a sequence of events that will occur on that specific day and all its possible repercussions for our planet. There are a lot of versions and interpretations out there, and I have read all kinds of information related to this topic, to come up with my own interpretations. Even if the most revealing and well-known is the Mayan Calendar, to be impartial, it is imperative to combine everything with science and with the certainty of when and how this will happen; the reality is that only facts are true, and the future is always a hope. Perhaps all these uncertainties about the end of the world will help us understand how small and defenseless we are in the face of the immensity of the Universe; perhaps it will teach us to understand, love and respect others as equals, inhabitants of the same place, our beautiful blue planet. What I have exposed today is only a small part of all the information available relating to the prophecies of 2012, now I invite everyone to do their own research, to reach their own individual conclusions.
