Topic > Dealing with Stress...The Genentech Way - 1637

Every large organization has its own way of dealing with "stress". This case explains how Genentech deals with stress. Genentech is the first biotechnology company and was founded in 1976 by Dr. Herbert W. Boyer, a biochemist, and Robert A. Swanson, a venture capitalist. Like every other large company, Genentech aspired to become the leading biotechnology company. It has been recognized as a very human-friendly company for its human resources policies and human therapies. In 2007, Genentech CEO Arthur Levinson wanted to make his company a great place to work and recognized by the industry and magazines. This desire pushed Genentech to adopt a culture that helped employees reduce stress and made the company a top 100 company in many U.S. magazines. The leadership team, management, practices and their policies have made them one of the best places to work. They inspire their employees to work hard by recognizing everyone's contribution. There are programs that offer employees a unique workplace and diverse opportunities to enhance their personal learning. The company helps them achieve personal and professional goals and allows them to manage the difficult task of balancing work and private life. The company also fosters emotional bonding between employees and patients that inspires them to work harder and gives them a boost in their creativity and life satisfaction. (Debra L Nelson) There are many other employee benefit programs such as tuition assistance, gRide (Genentech), time off, etc. The company provides a physical work environment where employees collaborate, share knowledge both face-to-face and via electronic communication. Therefore, Genentech offers a less stressful life for the needs of… middle of paper and programs that reduce stress in the workplace have proven to be the key factor in Genentech's success. Working at a larger biotech company, Amgen I can identify with all of these programs. In my company some of these programs work well, but because the company is twice the size of Genentech, some programs are not sustainable. It would be a dream come true for any employee to work in an ideal company without stress. Works Cited (1). Retrieved from http://www.gene.com/gene/careers/video_interviews.html(2011, August 8).
