Diversity is an important concept for students to learn because our world is becoming a more diverse planet every day. This is an opportunity for students to realize that we are all different, regardless of our race, culture, or class. First I present the book The Crayon Box that Talked by Shane DeRolf. Teachers should then ask students to predict what the story might be about. After reading the story, ask students what they learned from it. Encourage students to focus on being different from others, learning to accept others, and that we all have unique abilities and qualities.
