It appears that the expansion of armaments has created many more possibilities of destruction and death for those who choose to abuse firearms and explosives. The evolution of weapons has created many types of weapons that are not necessary for self-defense and hunting. Some would even say that these inventions and add-ons were created specifically to kill with the intent to inflict pain and kill large numbers of people. Our current federal law states that anyone who knowingly possesses or manufactures a firearm of any of these types can be punished with a sentence of up to 5 years: fully automatic, silencer, sawed-off shotgun, destructive device, assault rifle semi-automatic manufactured after October 1, 1993, or any firearm without a serial number or identification (“QUICK REFERENCE…”). All of these weapons have been proven to be more harmful than helpful or unnecessary in a self-defense or hunting situation. Many gun advocates have said that it is their right to use these weapons and that the Second Amendment says so (Acosta). This law refers to the safety versus freedom concept that some weapons cause more harm than good. Many extremists often argue that a special license or test should allow some to own these weapons. Often the extremist reasoning for this is that a potential foreign intruder or the government will turn against it
