Marcus Tullius CiceroMarcus Tullius Cicero, also known as Tully, is known as one of Rome's greatest orators (Bingley). Being the innovator of Ciceronian rhetoric, along with many other achievements, Cicero had a successful life even if it was cut short. As a young man, Cicero served in the military, studied law, literacy and philosophy (Bingley). He eventually married and later joined the Senate, but was exiled. He soon returned to Rome where he worked mainly on his studies and writings until the death of the great Roman ruler, Julius Caesar. Born in 106 BCE on January 3 in a small town southeast of Rome called Arpinum. Cicero is said to have been born into a highly respected family of landowners in the city (MARCUS TULLIUS CICERO – BIOGRAPHY). At a young age Cicero showed interest in philosophy and poetry, his talent in these areas gave him the opportunity to study in Rome. His studies were briefly interrupted in the year 90 BCE to serve in the military; he was only sixteen (Bingley). After the war he resumed his studies and soon became a lawyer. Marcus Tullius Cicero studied alongside Titus Pomponius, later known as Atticus, who became a "second brother" for him (MARCUS TULLIUS CICERO - BIOGRAPHY). Again according to the article “MARCO TULLIO CICERO – BIOGRAFIA”, they went together to Rome where they were introduced to Epicurean philosophy. While in Rome, Cicero was assigned his first major case in 80 BC Cicero had accused some of Sulla's supporters causing controversy over the case, but ultimately won (MARCUS TULLIUS CICERO – BIOGRAPHY). Just a year after Cicero's first major commission and subsequent departure from Rome, he married. After the death of the great Julius Caesar, Cicero produced a series of orations called the Philippics. He immediately tried to use Octavian to wage war on Caesar's follower Mark Antony, although he and Octavian united making Cicero the enemy. On 7 December 43 BC Marco Tullio Cicero was hunted down and executed. Cicero's throat was cut and his head and hands were chopped off and hung as a warning. According to "MARCUS TULLIUS CICERO - BIOGRAPHY", Cicero told his murderers "There is nothing right in what you are doing, soldier, but try to kill me properly." Marcus Tullius Cicero was a man of philosophy and a man for justice, his works, be they orations, letters, poems or even translations. Cicero was a talented man, which he took advantage of. Marcus Tullius Cicero is a remembered man.
