In Cambodian and Thai societies, an uneducated girl is a very shameful thing, and people don't care what happens to those girls. Families will sell their children to exploiters because their children are not educated. Education for girls keeps them off the streets where they could be victims of trafficking. An educated girl is considered more worthy than one who is not, so traffickers will not look for them because they may have more protection. Girls have a hard time staying in school because they can't see the long-term rewards it can have. They are overwhelmed by the pressure to provide for their family immediately, so they drop out of school and find work of any kind. Building schools is the first way to ensure that girls have the opportunity to seek an education. Rarely do girls receive any kind of education, so when a girl actually receives an education, it is recognized by the other villagers. Sex traffickers dupe uneducated girls by offering them jobs selling fruits in different cities. Once sold, the girls cannot escape or attempt to escape because they are illiterate. They wouldn't know where to go. Another aspect of education is to educate the rest of the world, as Half the Sky aims to do in this regard. It is not possible to end these atrocities in countries like Thailand and Cambodia without the rest of the world, whether due to poverty, corrupt governments or a lack of sense of
