A Roman statesman, Marcus Tullius Cicero, quoted: “Nothing is more noble, nothing is more venerable than loyalty. Fidelity and truth are the excellences and most sacred qualities of the human mind” (Quote by Brainy). Fidelity is an essential element of all happy and successful marriages. A marriage without loyalty, commitment and reliability risks failure. Individuals are able to learn from some of America's most prominent individuals such as Bill Clinton, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Tiger Woods about how loyalty can lead to shame and humiliation. Their actions may even give today's adults the idea that marriage is an irrelevant relationship. Fidelity is an absolute moral of mine because I believe that sexual betrayal and infidelity towards one's spouse is morally wrong and unethical regardless of any situation or what is declared acceptable by the rest of society. These strong values come from the religious beliefs I was taught as a child. By first gaining knowledge of the variations between moral absolutism and moral relativism, next considering my personal morals and values about honesty and faithfulness in marriages, and finally considering my actions when placed in special circumstances, I demonstrate how I view faithfulness to my future spouse as an absolute morality. Diving into the elements of moral absolutism and moral relativism, we must first analyze the definition of each. According to Kennedy Adarkwa, moral absolutism is whether a certain conduct or action is eternally right or always wrong, regardless of how an individual tries to rationalize the idea. What an individual considers to be an absolute moral value usually comes from the views they learned as a child and developed into their personal values… at the center of the card… is what it is like to maintain fidelity in my future marriage important. Marriage is a promise made to another individual to be sincere and honor each other all the days of their lives. I look forward to the day when I can make this promise and demonstrate to my spouse that faithfulness is an absolute moral value of my personal ethics. Works Cited Cicero, Marcus T.
