The Goals of Punishment For many generations there has been an old saying that "if you commit a crime, then punish" and it still applies in the current epidemic. Indeed, this shows that there are some in society who may need to be punished for their wrong doings. Parents use the exact same metaphor when disciplining their children when they do something wrong. No one is perfect and as human beings there will be times when mistakes are made. Life is all about living and learning from past mistakes and moving forward to know what not to do. Punishments are an effective method not only for parents and children, but also for those who misbehave in the eyes of the law. This synthesis and analysis of the arguments used by restorative justice advocates to respond to wrongdoing in the restorative justice system emphasizes the healing of wounds of victims, offenders, and communities caused or revealed by crime (Schmalleger & Smykla, 2014, p.62). The main goal here is to establish some sort of boundary regarding the level and extent of punishment. No one here on earth is allowed to exhibit deviant criminal behavior without some form of discipline and/or punishment. Furthermore, those who display criminal behavior also disrupt the community. Furthermore, deterrence is another key factor in the goals of punishment and efforts to redress it. Further explore where justice system restoration has occurred and is still occurring today. Through a restorative justice analysis we understand how to improve and restore the young minds of young people and push them in the right direction in life. According to (Bently, 2015, p. 26), in fact, "restorative justice does not leave the juvenile offender out of trouble, but helps the young person to understand and learn from mistakes, as well as giving him a role in the community".
