Topic > Incorporate Uniforms into Our School - 1034

As stated in the January 11, 2013 Morning Call, "Uniforms will reduce bullying, teasing and disruption, and will also be a more economical alternative for poor parents who every year they struggle to afford new school clothes for their children” (Esack). Just like the Allentown area school district, the inclusion of uniforms must be a priority for Pen Argyl High School. Not only will the students have better attendance once uniforms are required, but you can also expect an increase in academic achievement. The Pen Argyl School District's adoption of a uniform rule aimed at high schools would stop bullying in our school, eliminate it. questionable dress code violations and would make all students and staff easily identifiable when present in the high school building. There is no denying that bullying is a significant problem for the adolescent population. Implementing a uniform policy will help reduce this common problem that affects many teenagers. For example, uniforms would eliminate teenagers who tease each other based on their clothing style. Social evaluation is based on physical appearance. With uniforms, there is absolutely no controversy over who has the newest and coolest clothes at school; style is eliminated from the academic equation, which would lead to a reduction in bullying during the typical school day. Many teenagers often pester their parents by asking for money to get the latest trends, which are not always suitable for school. The reason for this is that teenagers want to appear “cool” to avoid being teased or bullied by classmates. Last year, a second-year student was subjected to daily teasing from her peers because she didn't have the money to buy brand-name clothes. Since his shoes were from P...... middle of paper ......cipal has more free time to make school-wide improvements rather than deal with the worry of disciplining students who dress in defined ways" inappropriate" in the school handbook. Additionally, student safety will be better than ever because it will be obvious to the school community when someone is present who shouldn't be. Implementing a uniform policy in Pen Argyl High School will be beneficial to the entire high school, as well as the community, because students will be looked at more professionally, will be better prepared for post-secondary career goals through their experience with dressing for success in their high school life, and there will be fewer disciplinary actions for the administration to deal with. All in all, uniforms are an effective method of streamlining the success of the Pen Argyl High School population.
