Anyone who wants to call themselves a gamer needs to have some idea of what Zelda is. It's one of the most popular video game series around and has created a cultural source of its own. There have been spin-off cartoons, websites, walkthroughs, modules, etc... but strangely the story of either video game doesn't change much. You are this elven-looking boy or adult named Link who is on a mission to save Princess Zelda, reunite the Triforce, and save the land of Hyrule from evils like Ganondorf. This is the general idea for almost all Zelda games, but what's so different about the Zelda games is that they marked the beginning of the player's ability to actually guide Link. Players can make decisions about where Link will go, how to fight the boss, or even what to buy. It is these decisions that allow the player to project their own personal ideas and beliefs onto Link. Although the player cannot do whatever he wants since Link is considered the hero and there are some limitations that the player must learn to accept, such as Hyrule's religion, there are other games that allow the player to have complete control over the actions of the main character like Grand Theft Auto 5. In Grand Theft Auto, you have virtually no limits on what you can do, from killing people on the street, to robbing a bank, to just taking a bike ride in the park. This allows the player to project all of his beliefs or anti-beliefs onto the main character. It's this freedom that actually makes it harder for us to care about the main character in Grand Theft Auto, whereas in Zelda we care more about Link. Why is this true? It's true because in Zelda we are forced to accept some ideas that are... middle of paper... not constantly in the same emotional state, but changing. So in conclusion, The Legend of Zelda has many aspects of different religions throughout the entire series and used them all to create one central religion that doesn't seem to have any flaw in its existence. It doesn't punish evil in the afterlife, aside from Ganondorf who is sealed in a cosmic prison since he's so powerful and evil, but it punishes evil in the present life with Link, who is allowed to choose whether to be the hero or not. . The goddesses keep themselves hidden from only a few, which leaves people completely free to choose whether to be good or not, based on the advice of their selected guardians. All this creates the idea of a perfect religion, which does not cause wars or exclude any race but accepts everyone and gives them a purpose in life, which is what religion is supposed to do..
