During my years in high school and participating in many hours in a community service program, I was exposed to many national and world issues. I have been exposed to the impacts of childhood cancer and health issues affecting many third world countries. I have also been presented with many opportunities that have allowed me to grow as a person and become more aware of the events that are occurring around the world. After all my life experiences, I have decided to pursue a career that can benefit all communities, be they first or third world countries. My goal is to study in the field of pharmacology and become a pharmacologist. Depending on the career I have chosen to pursue, there are several questions I have thought about. As I thought about the career I chose, my first question was simple. What does a pharmacologist do? At first I thought they did research and lab work. But then I started doing research and learning about their work and their duties as a pharmacologist. It is true that pharmacologists work in laboratories and do research but they can do much more. In addition to researching the effects of drugs, they also research “gases, dusts, and other materials on the health of people and animals” (smysp.stanford.edu). They also study and develop drugs to treat and prevent illnesses and diseases. Not only are they able to create new drugs to treat current illnesses and diseases, but pharmacologists also perform tests on many substances. They carry out studies and research on these substances to observe the effects they have on laboratory animals to conclude what effects they might have on humans. The main goal of the pharmacologist is to create the "design of chemical agents to cure, improvise...... middle of paper... and make everyone's effort worthwhile.
