IntroductionThe purpose of this reflection paper is to discover the meaning of the lust of the eyes and the crown of life. It will be clear that the lust of the eyes does not come from God but is a product of the world. Furthermore, the lust of the eyes will not prevent the faithful Christian from earning the crown of life as promised by the Lord. Theological Definition The New Oxford American Dictionary describes lust as a strong sexual desire or a strong desire for something. In the Bible we find the phrase lust of the eyes, which can refer to the sin committed by the eyes to desire something or someone. The Bible also points out that the depraved nature of the human heart causes lust of the eyes. The definition of this sin is that of greed or lack of “Do not be afraid of what you are about to suffer. Be faithful unto death, and I will give you life as the crown of your victory” (Revelation 2:10 NIV11-GK). Christians are given this encouragement to remain faithful through all trials, suffering, and persecution. «Blessed are those who persevere in the test because, having overcome the test, they will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those he loves. It is what awaits the faithful believer after death that is important. The crown of life is God's promise that His children will not be hurt by the second death. “Whoever was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire” (Revelation 20:15 NIV11-GK). God understands the trials of the human heart, including the suffering and persecution inflicted on those who believe in Him. However, we must view life with Jesus as pure joy, despite all the trials we face. “For you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance” (James 1:2). Christians must remain faithful during difficult times resulting in victory
