Electric carsOur generation has reached a global environmental crisis. There is a limited amount of oil left. Pollution contributes to global warming. Many of these problems are threatening our most popular form of transportation, the automobile. Many manufacturers are developing new technologies for cars to keep them efficient and environmentally friendly. The newest form of transportation is electric cars. Many car manufacturers are producing different types of electric vehicles, to achieve certain degrees of environmental friendliness, to create the best alternative vehicle for the coming years. The only question people ask is: is the electric car a practical, effective and economically reasonable car, capable of replacing the petrol engine? For starters, there are many different types of electric vehicles and there are many ways to power them. The three most popular are the petrol hybrid engine, fully electric cars and hydrogen-powered cars. All of these types have an electric motor that powers the car. The differences concern performance, emissions, autonomy and the way energy is received and stored. To explain each type, a model will be paired with each electric car type to provide an example of each variation. Bob Lutz of General Motors wasn't a big fan of the electric vehicle. The first attempt at an all-electric car was GM's EV1. It was fast, beautiful and powered solely by electricity. EV1 owners said the car was fantastic. Not only was it convenient, but it was also saving the planet. Shortly after release, GM lost faith in the electric car and got rid of it. Years later, when they attempted to make another electric car, Lutz feared that going all-electric was too much of a risk (T...... middle of paper ......ilt to perform like the gasoline cars today. Many car manufacturers are producing different types of electric vehicles, to achieve certain levels of environmental friendliness, to create the best alternative vehicle for the coming years. Is the electric car a practical, effective and convenient car to replace? the petrol engine? Absolutely. The electric car, whether hybrid, fully electric or hydrogen, has a bright future with the myriad of environmental problems we face today. The hybrid continues to depend on petrol of a clean grid to be considered eco-friendly affordable and there are not many hydrogen stations now, but for now, the all-electric car is the best alternative to a petrol-powered car if you want a practical, effective and efficient vehicle reasonable cost..
