Great Britain imposed taxes such as the Stamp Act and the Sugar Act. Colonists had no say in what policies would be set in motion in the colonies and this angered many colonists. When the Stamp Act was passed, a group called the Stamp Act Congress formed and said that Great Britain should have no dominion over the colonies. The Sugar Act was passed primarily to recover the money that Great Britain used to send troops to the colonies. It also reduced the smuggling of non-British goods into the colonies. This made Americans very angry because not only was this taxation without representation, but they were also essentially paying for troops that were in the colonies that no one wanted around.
