The article I chose was The Big Squeeze published by Kenneth Chang. In this article Kenneth Chang talks about experiments conducted at the Carnegie Institution for Science in Washington, DC. Carnegie researchers are squeezing large numbers of organic substances between diamond anvils allowing researchers the ability to observe molecular changes, this research will allow scientists to analyze the permutations of matter that are happening within the Earth's core and also inside Jupiter and even other intensely pressurized environments. Scientists hope that ongoing experiments will give us new information that we can analyze to produce materials that will be more effective at capturing sunlight in solar cells that produce electricity and that can provide us with fuel tanks for hydrogen-powered cars. . “It's a new kind of chemistry” (Dr. Hemley, The Big Squeeze, 2013) The researchers use a circular-shaped metal cylinder that is believably only two inches wide and one inch tall. When necessary, researchers can turn the screws on the top cylinder, which pull...
