Everyone has the right to know what's in the food they're eating. It is shocking how these huge corporations dominate American citizens. If everyone knew how much brutality is required to satisfy the demands of the fast food industry, I like to think that the public simply would not tolerate it and would demand that animals stop being considered property under the law. I find it impossible to believe that if people knew the reality they wouldn't want animals to resort to legal protections to avoid enduring lives of nothing but abuse. Food Allocation1. Earthlings The film contains a quote from Jeremy Bentham, the philosophical godfather of animal rights, so to speak, who says: "The question is not, 'Can they reason?' nor, 'Can they speak?' but rather, 'Can they suffer?' This argument made by Jeremy is often seen as the cornerstone of animal rights philosophy. The irony of the quote is that Jeremy actually saw nothing wrong with eating meat. He ate meat once a day, but he lived by the code according to which we should try to give animals a dignified life and strive to offer the animal a less painful death than what would have awaited them in a natural world. When it comes to the common practice of killing, it all boils down to the fact that the comfort of the animal is almost never taken into consideration. It all comes down to money. It is cheaper to kill animals inhumanely than to keep them in closed conditions.2. Inc is simple. Multinational corporations and their profits are driving the food system and the effects are harmful and detrimental to the health of our planet and everything that lives on it (including us). Furthermore, we have the power to collectively change it if we fail to maintain the situation. Of course, almost no one knows because most of the things we eat are transparent, so knowing whether they're bad for you or good for you is hard to say. Essentially, none of this matters in the end because it has been going on for so long that change is nearly impossible. Addictive junk food isn't going away anytime soon - in fact, more of it is being produced every day. Starting a healthy eating lifestyle is much more difficult when your body is accustomed to certain types of foods. Americans know how meat is produced, yet they continue to eat it. One of the main reasons is because it tastes amazing, as cliché as it sounds. No one wants to have a tasteless dish when you can eat one that turns out to be amazing. Despite the fact that the amazing dish has more calories, it is nothing that they look at because our foods are not transparent or clear to us.
