“Most young Americans are excessively materialistic. They want to have almost all the trending items as they are presented through advertising” (Livingstone & Helsper, 2006; 579). The inability or refusal of parents to purchase such items for them leads to parent-child conflicts. But for those who are able to obtain such things with minimal demand, their lifestyle continues to be materialistic.
