In the story Rapunzel, of the Grimm fairy tales, many events lead to the tragic, but happy, ending. The wife, who had a baby on the way, wanted to eat some of the sorceress' herbs. Every day, her craving grew stronger until she couldn't take it anymore, and she sent her husband to steal some. The sorceress noticed her husband and became very angry. She decided to be nice and make a deal with her husband. The sorceress would have spared his life if he had been given the son his wife had borne. When the baby, Rapunzel, was born, she was handed over to the sorceress. At the age of twelve she was locked in a tower. There were no stairs leading up to the castle, so no one could enter or exit. The sorceress climbed Rapunzel's hair to get inside. The king's son heard Rapunzel singing and went to see her. Rapunzel and the king's son fell in love and decided to get married. Rapunzel told him to bring a piece of cloth every night so he could make a ladder to climb down. The enchantress learned of Rapunzel's plan, so she cut off all her hair and threw Rapunzel into the desert. When the king's son arrived, the sorceress untied Rapunzel's hair. The king's son was so frightened by the sorceress that he jumped down from the tower, piercing his eyes on the thorns. He wandered through the forest until he met Rapunzel and her twins. Rapunzel's tears cleared the eyes of the king's son and they lived happily ever after in the kingdom. In the end they lived happily ever after because the wife craved the herbs, the king's son found Rapunzel, and the sorceress discovered the king's son. The first event that started the chain of reactions in Rapunzel, from the Grimm Fairy Tales, was the wife's desire. Wife longed for herbs… middle of paper… ppy.
