WWII DBQWorld War II was caused by the Treaty of Versailles because Germany took the blame for all the damage after World War I. The name by which Germany takes all the blame is the war guilt clause. As shown in the maps of Europe in 1914 and 1928 from (doc 1) after the First World War, they (Germany) lost land. Then in 1924 Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Finland and Romania became part of Russia. Because Germany had lost a son after World War I and shouldered the blame, she became bitter towards the French. Germany was essentially robbed of its most valuable lands by the French, which was their pride and obviously angered Germany. From this one could deduce that Germany was indeed shocked by the decisions made. As described in the Treaty of Versailles (doc 2) as articles 51 and 119, Germany must give up the land against its will. Then, in articles 231 and 232 there is a war guilt clause. They claim that the Germans are responsible for all damage and/or losses resulting from the First World War. Furthermore, it was said that Germany was doing it "wrong" and that France had every right to take away Alsace and Lorraine. . From this one could deduce what was said before that Germany was upset. From Hitler's speech (doc 3) it is shown from Hitler's point of view, which is obviously a very biased point of view in which everything that happened was unjust. Hitler criticizes the Treaty of Versailles and states that the German people do not agree with the decisions made by the government. As in documents 1 and 2 it states that Germany had their land taken away and was blamed for a lot of things, so the citizens believe that if they had stayed in the war they could have definitely won. What this shows is Hitler's biased views towards his country. From the M... half of Hitler's paper... we are ready to fight or not. Cooper also states that the British government was afraid to stand up to the British government because they were afraid of what Hitler might say during his speech and there would be no retreat after that. From this it can be deduced that Great Britain wants to declare war on Germany, but is afraid to say anything to Hitler. In conclusion, the Treaty of Versailles was the reason why World War II was caused. The Treaty of Versailles had awarded all damages and payments to Germany. Furthermore, not only was it caused by the treaty, but because France and Britain declared war on Germany because they invaded Poland who had allied with them. Works Cited "Causes of World War II."
