Suicide is defined as the taking of one's life and is a matter to which all attention should be given. Teen suicide has been talked about in every media source and it still continues to have a detrimental effect on today's generation. In the United States the eighth leading cause of death is suicide, among developing adolescents suicide is the third leading cause of death (NAMI). There are many signs of someone contemplating suicide. And there are many reasons why someone can be driven to suicide. These reasons are if the teenager is dealing with depression, bullying, sexual abuse, and accessory abuse. If we were more open to everyone, we could prevent these situations from happening as frequently as they do now. Drug and alcohol abuse, stress, and reckless behavior are also common warning signs; another warning sign is if the person has thought about or attempted suicide. Just because someone tries to commit suicide once doesn't necessarily guarantee that they will try to do it again. Symptoms of suicide can be easily detected; therefore, suicide can be prevented. Recognizing the warning signs is the easiest way to prevent someone from committing suicide. Antidepressants, support groups and therapy are some useful solutions to prevent people from committing suicide. It is extremely inaccurate to believe that once someone contemplates suicide, there is no way to stop them from committing suicide.
