The school bell rang at 3:35 pm sending all the students home. While most students went home, Anthony stayed after school to work on homework, not wanting to leave school. This was because “Home” was a completely uncertain place for Anthony. This became especially true toward the end of his senior year at Los Angeles Senior High School. His father suffered from alcoholism. This problem led to Anthony's father being fired, and after selling everything they owned, Anthony's family was kicked out of their small studio apartment in the MacArthur Park area of Los Angeles. At this point in his life he and his family had found refuge inside the three doors of his mother's minivan. As the last month of high school approached, Anthony found solace and distraction from all of his family's problems in life by doing what he loved most, math and science problems. This is just one life experience among many I had growing up. I'm Anthony. My full name is Gilbert Anthony Zepeda and I found an outlet in science by staying at home and facing difficulties...
