Most of the food we were served in high school wasn't actually cooked, because it was pre-prepared. This means that the school does not actually produce the food because it most likely buys it already prepared from the companies. I saw one of the cafeteria workers open a plastic bag full of chili peppers and throw it into a pan to heat it. Not many people enjoy the appetizers the school serves, so we had a substitution option. The substitute choice would be between a peanut butter and jelly sandwich or a sub sandwich with turkey, ham or roast beef. Many times the school ran out of sub sandwiches and the bread used for the peanut butter and jelly sandwich was hard, frozen or dry when biting into it. Multiple times when I received the peanut butter sandwiches they were frozen when I tried to eat them. Other alternatives provided are burgers or cheese pizza. People rarely wanted those options because the burgers were soy burgers and the pizza would always be hard and cold. At Indiana State they served the same entrees almost every day. Occasionally the menu may be different, but most of the time the same food was served every day. Most people get tired of eating the same food for an entire school year. Another option might be to go to a fast food restaurant in the common places, but you might not want to eat
