Trail courts in six main stages, arraignment of a defendant, formation of a jury, hearing and evaluation of evidence, determination of facts, pronouncement of judgment, imposition of sentence (Wright, 2012). The Supreme Courts handle federal and state cases, involving both federal and constitutional law. The third branch is corrections. The correctional system deals with guilty criminals. The judge first determines what the criminal's sentences will be. “Judges are not free to assign the punishment they want but only the punishments permitted by law, given the seriousness of the crime. Judges cannot, for example, order that someone convicted of shoplifting be executed or whipped” (Wright, 2012). Corrections concern the culprit and the punishment that the judge inflicted on the culprit. Maintaining public safety is the true and only objective of penitentiary institutions. Provide incarceration and take offenders off the streets to ensure public safety and the rehabilitation of criminals. All three of these branches are like a well-oiled machine.
