Character Reference Letter for a Friend The purpose is to provide a character reference of Bob Simmons who I know as a classmate, roommate and friend for a period of six years. I met Bob during our freshman year in State College. We were studying an art program there and got to know each other through a series of lessons that we shared. By sophomore year we had become friends and decided to live together in an off-campus apartment. We shared that living arrangement until we graduated last year. Having known Bob over the past few years puts me in a position to give you a fairly accurate assessment of his character. As a student, Bob worked hard and was highly committed to his education and grades. I believe his excellent transcriptions will attest to this fact. Additionally, he was involved in a number of extracurricular activities, including the track team and the school newspaper. For the past two years he has been deputy editor of the "Campus Times". He was always outgoing, willing to help someone and was very popular among his fellow students. As a roommate, Bob was a great choice. He was always very clean and tidy and liked things in the apartment to be kept tidy. He made a point of cleaning his room and common areas regularly. He socialized occasionally at home, but was always respectful of my needs, and he and his guests kept the noise down and finished their activities at a reasonable hour. As a friend, Bob is as good as anyone. He is loyal, honest, respectful and supportive and has the ability to see and understand things from another person's point of view, not just his own. He is a great direct communicator and knows how to raise and discuss common life issues and problems in a non-threatening way. He is hypersensitive and is always tuned into how the person might feel in a certain situation.
