Imagine a family where everyone has their annoying habits. The wife is always annoyed by her husband who has the habit of leaving socks on the floor. The husband has a flaw that the wife does not appreciate. Instead of correcting this imperfection, the husband decides to ignore it due to his arrogance. This leads to an indifferent and turbulent environment, and the wife constantly holds a grudge against her husband's habits. Everyone has their own weaknesses that they must change to become more complete beings. When Paul and his team had just executed The Chief, Paul states that "[they] had once again succeeded in destroying what [they] could not create" (113-114). The word “destroy” means to put an end to the existence of something. When they executed The Chief, what they “destroyed” and could not create was peace and compassion. Paul knew that the Chief had committed a horrible crime, yet Paul did not feel it was right to take his life. The execution was more of a revenge to console the victim's family, knowing that the criminal was suffering for his actions. It was not compassionate to execute The Chief, because the public holds a grudge against him.
