Topic > Negative Effects of Self-Driving Cars - 707

It may be difficult to understand where the self-driving car might have safety issues, but an interesting question arises when an accident is unavoidable. The question that arises is: “How should the car be programmed to act in the event of an unavoidable accident? Should it minimize loss of life, even if that means sacrificing the occupants, or should it protect them at all costs? Should he randomly choose between these extremes?” (ArXiv). This is a very interesting question about ethics. I'm not sure there is a right answer to the question, which could stall the self-driving car industry. Before self-driving cars are mass-produced, a solution to the issue of unavoidable accidents must be found. While this question is a problem, you may not need to address it. It is said that ""driver error is believed to be the main reason behind over 90% of all accidents" and the main causes are drink driving, distracted drivers, failure to stay in a lane and falling when giving the right of way." (Keating). Self-driving cars could completely eliminate these problems, and perhaps, since all cars on the road will be self-driving cars, there would be no “unavoidable accidents.” Safety is the main problem that the self-driving car is trying to solve in transportation and at which it seems to do a good job
