The society Vonnegut created takes equality to a level that most of us cannot understand. "The year was 2081, and everyone was finally equal. They weren't just equal before God and the law. They were equal in every way. No one was smarter than anyone else. No one was more beautiful than anyone else. No one was more stronger or faster than anyone else." Equality is a great thing that the world should embrace; however, complete equality is another problem. In a world of absolute equality, every human being would be considered no more or less than the person next to him. Vonnegut highlights the question of how equality can be taken to the extreme despite handicaps. The handicaps are brutal and seem almost primitive or medieval. Bags full of lead balls that are attached to George's neck, or the masks that the dancers are forced to wear.
