Topic > American History: Year 1962-1347

Research PaperAmerica is the greatest country of all time. He had many big years and each of those years was eventful. But one question remains: What is the most important year for America in the 20th century? The answer to this question would be the year 1962. There are many reasons why 1962 is one of the most important years for America in the twentieth century. The first reason why 1962 is one of the most important is the Supreme Court case Baker v. Carr. In the case, Charles Baker (plaintiff) was a resident of Shelby County, Tennessee. He filed a lawsuit against Joe Carr, a secretary of state for Tennessee. Baker stated that the Tennessee Legislature has not drawn its legislative districts since 1901. If the statement made by Charles Baker were true, it would be a violation of the Tennessee State Constitution. The Tennessee State Constitution requires redistricting according to the federal census every ten years. Because of this rule, Baker claimed that his vote violated the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment. Baker sought an injunction prohibiting further elections and sought to seek the remedy of redistribution in large-scale elections. The district courts denied this claim because redistricting presented a political issue and would ultimately not be heard by the courts. The case had to be postponed for a new hearing because no clear majority emerged for either side. Nearly a year later, the opinion was finally issued. The court split 6-2 in ruling that Baker's case was triable. Justice William J Brennan reformulated the political question doctrine, identifying six factors that help determine...... half of the document ......stro accused the Russians of surrendering to the Americans and defecting from the revolution Cuban. US allies were also angry. They were angry that the Kennedy administration was keeping them out of negotiations that could have led to war. The year 1962 was certainly an eventful year. It contained Supreme Court cases, civil rights movements, and a near nuclear war between two powerful countries. If none of these events had happened, America would not be exactly the same country it is today. We would not be known as the baddest country if these events had not happened. Hell, we even scared off the big bad wolf, a.k.a. the Soviet Union. With all the events that happened in just one year, it is proven that the year 1962 is among the most important years of the twentieth century in the United States of America.
