Technology and Religion/Beliefs The ancient Huang He civilization was a truly impressive civilization. They began around 4000 BC near the Yellow River in Asia; the beginning of this civilization was the beginning of many Chinese empires. They viewed people outside their civilization as uncivilized barbarians and thought that people should be loyal to their family before they were loyal to anything else. Fathers were the heads of the family and women obeyed their fathers, their children when they grew up and their husbands. They also gave us many inventions that we still use today and they also had a very different religion than most people. Religion/Beliefs Religion was very important to the Huang He civilization; the primitive religion of the Huang He people was polytheistic, meaning they had more than one. They believed in supernatural forces and that they could communicate with dead ancestors in the afterlife via oracle bones and also that dead spirits, kings and ancestors could help them have a good future. Confucianism and Taoism (also known as Daoism) had existed in the area since around 450 BC, while Buddhism hit the area between 110 BC and 220 AD and became the main religion in that area. One of the many dynasties near the Huang He River, called the Shang Dynasty, worshiped a god called Shang Di who ruled over the gods of the sun, moon, wind, rain, and other natural forces. Ancestor worship was very important to the kings and nobles who ruled the civilization of the Huang He River Valley. They brought food and wine to the temples as a sign of ancestor worship, and when a person died and his soul went to the afterlife (heaven), the priests wrote questions from various people on the oracle bones and held something warm over the bone to create cracks. appear...... middle of paper......ry, creating a system of writing, building roads and digging canals, and building water wheels to grind grain. Without the Huang He civilization we probably wouldn't have some of the things we have today. So, in conclusion, without ancient civilizations – all of them – we wouldn't know half the things we know now.
