1.0 Introduction1.1 Background of the Study Unemployment occurs when a person is available to work and looking for work but is currently jobless. The extent of unemployment is usually measured using the unemployment rate, which is defined as the percentage of those in the labor force who are unemployed. The number of unemployed people in Malaysia increased from 382,900 people in 2011 to 396,300 people in 2012. Unemployed people in Malaysia are reported by the Department of Statistics, Malaysia. In Malaysia, the unemployed are individuals who are jobless and actively seeking work. For many years, the manufacturing sector was the strongest sector in the country and the main contributor to job creation until the financial crisis of mid-1997. From this period onwards the agricultural sector was progressively replaced by the manufacturing sector and services. The service sector, in particular, required people who possessed the right soft skills such as communication and interpersonal skills, but obtaining graduates with such qualities was quite difficult. Generally, most organizations prefer to hire experienced graduates. The employer will find the worker who had a lot of experience compared to the one without experience. Lack of experience and skills also cause graduate unemployment. When asked to rate the importance of a comprehensive set of individual skills, business leaders put soft skills at the top of their list, ahead of traits like integrity, professionalism and a positive attitude. Students must prepare before graduating and entering the workforce. With these programs, students can improve their soft skills such as teamwork, communication skills, leadership and entrepreneurial skills. During the final school term, students are also taught to increase their confidence and make it marketable. It also helps students write a suitable resume and prepares students with different types of interview scenarios to improve their interview skills.5.0 References
