In the novel The Road, Cormac McCarthy illustrates expressions, settings and actions through various literary devices and the protagonist's struggle to survive in a civilization full of darkness and inhumanity. The theme between a father and a son emerges, giving both characters the role of protagonists. Survival, hope, humanity, the power of good and evil, the power of religion can be seen throughout the novel in different writing techniques. It symbolizes the end of civilization or what the world turned out to be like "The Cannibals". The novel presents readers with events that exemplify the events that make the unexpected catastrophe so dangerous and violent. The novel reduces all human and natural life to the condition of ferocity and temporary survival. McCarthy uses color images to describe how grey, pale and miserable everything was. Use “bringing fire” which represents people who have a flame of humanity left alive in their hearts. The metaphor explains to readers how most people were discouraged in their journey to the horrible remains of humanity. In the novel, Cormac McCarthy's The Road elaborates not only the settings and actions, but also the love between a father and son that is present even in the moment of maximum inhumanity and the stubborn desire to fight to stay alive in the world apocalyptic. and manipulate different writing techniques such as literary devices and characterization to explain the negative aspects of humanity. The man, despite knowing that he would die, wanted to live to abstain his son from any kind of hateful activity. He will undoubtedly commit suicide if his child is harmed in any way. McCarthy uses characterization and literary devices to give his readers a clear message about the apocalyptic world.
